Shuttle ZEN delivers silence
The Tech Report, a leading PC hardware review website with a reputation for delivering thorough analysis and quality insight, has been one of the first sites to post a review of Shuttle’s new XPC Zen (ST62K).
"For mainstream and business markets … the ST62K’s tiny footprint and quiet operation are appealing,” spouted Tech Report reviewer Geoff Gasior. “A nearly silent cooling fan also makes the ST62K perfect for small form factor [SFF] home-theater PCs."
With ATI’s RADEON™ 9100 IGP chipset at its core, this tiny SFF computer (20 percent smaller than earlier XPC's) ships with support for Pentium®4/Celeron CPU’s, dual-channel DDR400 memory and best-of-class RADEON 9100 graphics built-in. The Zen also includes a full palette of digital multimedia ports — FireWire 400, USB 2 and SPDIF (audio).
"[T]he cube's integrated Radeon 9100 IGP graphics are more than adequate for TV output,” praised Gasior. “Heck, the integrated graphics are even good enough for a little light gaming”
XPC Zen also introduces a revolutionary Silent X external power adapter, saving both precious space and reducing the noise levels to not even audiable. Further the XPC Zen is twenty percent smaller than previous XPC’s.
”Overall, Shuttle’s Zen concept is a fine idea,” concluded Gasior. “The ST62K certainly has enough horsepower for most mainstream and business applications, and Shuttle is to be applauded for thinking outside the box (literally) to make the cube smaller and quieter than previous XPC systems.”
